The Hard Skills Our physical curriculum is a hybrid of the most effective systems for reality-based self-defence.

You will learn:

  • Stand-Up Striking: Fundamentals from Boxing, Muay Thai, and Kickboxing to manage distance.

  • Grappling & Control: Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) tailored for street safety and getting back to your feet.

  • Weapons Defense: Techniques from Filipino Martial Arts (FMA), Kali, and Krav Maga concepts for defending against knives, sticks, and blunt objects.

  • Constraint-Based Learning: We use the ecological approach, meaning you learn through live movement, not static drills.

FAQ's

Do I need to be in shape or have experience to join?

Not at all. We specialize in teaching adult beginners. You do not need to be fit or have any martial arts background to start. Our classes are designed to build your fitness and skills from the ground up in a safe, ego-free environment.

What are the "Soft Skills" you mention?

Physical self-defence is the last resort. We teach you how to avoid violence before it happens. Our curriculum includes conflict de-escalation, body language analysis, situational awareness, and understanding the legal aspects of self-defence in Canada.

Is this class suitable for women?

Yes. We focus heavily on personal protection concepts that rely on leverage, awareness, and mechanics rather than brute strength. Our women’s self-defense training covers escaping larger opponents, situational awareness, and boundary setting.

What is the "Ecological Approach" to training?

It means we don't just memorize static moves in the air. We use "constraint-led games" where you learn to react to live energy and resistance. This helps you learn faster and retain skills better under stress compared to traditional drilling.

What style do you teach? Is it MMA or Krav Maga?

It is a hybrid of reality-based systems. We use the "hard skills" of MMA (Boxing, Wrestling, BJJ) because they work against resistance. However, we also incorporate Krav Maga and Filipino Martial Arts for real-world scenarios like weapon defense (knife/stick) and multiple attackers.

Where are you located?

We train inside the Sackville Heights Community Centre at 45 Connolly Rd, Middle Sackville, NS. We are easily accessible for students from Lower Sackville, Bedford, and Halifax.
