Striking and Kickboxing

This is the stand up component of Splice MMSD.   We develop the various strikes through hitting targets (usually focus mitts) for power generation, partner drills for targeting and reaction development, and most importantly, sparring and sparring games using goal based sparring.

Some of the strikes we utilize include punches, kicks, elbows, knees, and headbutts.

Clinch Fighting

Clinch fighting can also be called standing grappling.   We develop our clinch ability by working on various positions like biceps ties, neck clinch, overhooks, underhooks, and body locks.  We learn how to get to these positions from out of range, kickboxing range, and even from the ground range.

From a clinch position we also add in strikes to specific targets as well as practice takedowns.

Most of our skill development in the clinch comes directly from our sparring games.

Ground Fighting

This section of Splice is about fighting off the ground. Although we don't want to wind up here in a self-defense situation, we still must be proficient here if we find ourselves on the ground for whatever the reason.  On the ground we learn about positional hierarchy, about balance and weight distribution, and how to stay safe from strikes from an assailant, while keeping awareness of our surroundings. We also add in strikes from the ground and really focus on how to get back to our feet.

To best develop our ground fighting, we utilize sparring games, pad work, and partner drills.

Weapons

self-defense, self defense, self-defence, self defence

This area of training mostly deals with defending against weapons, primarily sharp objects (knives), firearms, and blunt objects (sticks).

We work all ranges defending against weapons (kickboxing, clinch, ground, and multiple attackers. Expect a weapon to be brought out during any of our other training games.

We also learn about improvised weapons, when we should consider using them, and possible consequence of using them.

Multiple Attackers

This area of training is less about fighting multiple attackers, but more about practicing strategies to escape from multiple assailants.

We work on strategies for small group defense and staying safe in mobs/riots.
